MUBIL showcases its laboratories to industry through the MUBIL Lab Experience

The event brought together companies, professionals, and key industry stakeholders to promote new strategic partnerships and drive forward advanced mobility solutions. It also offered a unique opportunity to explore the cutting-edge capabilities of MUBIL’s three specialized laboratories, dedicated to the development, validation, and certification of advanced propulsion systems for sustainable mobility.

MUBIL Lab Experience

MUBIL continues to strengthen its position as a European hub for smart and sustainable mobility with the MUBIL Lab Experience, an event held on 29 May that brought together representatives from leading international companies such as AVL, DANA, CAF, and Aston Martin, who shared their strategic perspectives.

The event is part of MUBIL Experiences, a series of industry-focused gatherings designed to spark innovation, foster collaboration, and highlight the resources MUBIL offers to support the technological development of the mobility sector.

One of the keynote speakers was Professor Helmut List, CEO of AVL, a global leader in mobility technologies.

The event welcomed industrial companies, technology centers, startups, and other players developing solutions for electric transport, key components, and the future of mobility. Activities included professional networking, knowledge sharing, and matchmaking opportunities to encourage innovative project development. Cidetec and Epowerlabs, the technological managers of the laboratories, presented their capabilities and available services.

Attendees had the chance to explore MUBIL’s three specialized testing labs—energy storage, electric powertrain, and hydrogen fuel cell. Each facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology designed for the testing and certification of next-generation battery systems, powertrains, and hydrogen solutions.

In addition to the lab tours, the session included a technical presentation on MUBIL’s testing services and an audiovisual demonstration of various systems in action.

A hub for industry and innovation

The event reinforced MUBIL’s commitment to fostering direct dialogue between the industrial ecosystem and the region’s scientific and technological infrastructure. It joins a packed calendar of upcoming events, including the Electric Charging Sector Forum (10 June), the CityScience Experience in collaboration with MIT Media Lab (12 June), and the MUBIL Mobility Awards (award ceremony on 23 October), all aligned with MUBIL’s goal of accelerating innovation and driving economic development through sustainable mobility.

MUBIL Center

With a €25 million investment and a total surface area of 9,700 m², the newly inaugurated MUBIL Center is designed as a benchmark for the testing and validation of advanced mobility technologies. The initiative is led by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, with support from the Basque Government. The Center includes:

  • An Energy Storage Lab, capable of testing cells, modules, and battery packs under rigorous reliability standards. The lab can test over 800 cells simultaneously and simulate extreme conditions to identify efficient, safe solutions. Advanced safety systems are built into the facility’s design.
  • An Electric Powertrain Lab, for testing motors, inverters, and transmission systems used in light, heavy-duty, and high-performance vehicles. It evaluates performance, efficiency, durability, and electrical behavior under controlled environmental conditions. NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) testing ensures acoustic comfort, and the lab can simulate loads beyond real-world levels to detect potential failures.
  • A Hydrogen Fuel Cell Lab, for testing hydrogen-based power systems. It features a sealed chamber capable of simulating a range of temperature and humidity conditions to validate system efficiency and reliability.
