MUBIL and BASQUENERGY Cluster organise a business mission to EVS38 (Gothenburg) with the participation of nine Basque companies from the mobility sector

The Basque delegation, made up of the companies AVL, Battera, Cauchopren, Tornillería DEBA, Elay, EVsare, Gertek, Masermic, and Reiner Group, and coordinated by MUBIL and BASQUENERGY Cluster with the support of the Gipuzkoa Chamber of Commerce, has established new contacts with representatives from the sector and has accessed information first-hand on the current situation and the latest technological developments in sustainable mobility.

The International Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition (EVS), which began in 1969 as an academic forum to promote the exchange of technical information, has expanded its scope to become a conference and trade show for both academic and business sectors, establishing itself as one of the leading international gatherings for smart and sustainable electric mobility. MUBIL and BASQUENERGY Cluster, with the support of the Gipuzkoa Chamber of Commerce, have coordinated a business mission to EVS38 (held in the Swedish city of Gothenburg between 16-18 June) comprised of a delegation of nine Basque companies from the sector: AVL, Battera, Cauchopren, Tornillería DEBA, Elay, EVsare, Gertek, Masermic, and Reiner Group. For MUBIL, this mission is one of the initiatives carried out as part of MUBIL’s Professional Dynamics, which aim to support companies in their development of smart and sustainable mobility and which have been underway since 2021 in collaboration with the Gipuzkoa Chamber of Commerce.

This year's edition, despite more moderate attendance than other years in terms of visitors and exhibitors, maintained a high participation rate at the conferences (more than 350 speakers) and demonstrated Sweden's —and especially the city of Gothenburg's— firm commitment to the electrification of the transport system. The country, which has 37,166 electric vehicle chargers —of which 32,413 are AC (slow charging) and 4,753 are DC (fast charging)— is a pioneer in innovative projects and cutting-edge electric mobility technology thanks to a public/private collaboration ecosystem that brings together the entire value chain.

The delegation witnessed firsthand the current state of the sector, whose technological advances in the field of electric charging allow for the development of increasingly faster and more powerful equipment. Highlights include solutions aimed at the electrification of heavy transport, such as Scania's launch of its lorry range incorporating the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) fast-charging standard and smart charging management and power optimisation software platforms, as well as the advancement of V2G (vehicle-to-grid) technology, which will improve storage capacity and grid flexibility.

During their stay, Basque companies had the opportunity to visit the stands and hold meetings with manufacturers, research centres, and associations involved in the development of electric mobility in Europe, such as Volvo Group, IVECO, Siemens Energy, e-mobil BW (Baden-Württemberg Mobility Cluster), Chalmers Institute of Technology, Bosch Mobility, RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden), Vitesco, Renault Group, Valeo, E-Mobility Europe (European Association for Electromobility), Hubject, and Daimler Truck. These meetings have facilitated mutual understanding and the identification of collaboration opportunities, as well as helping to improve the visibility and positioning of Basque industry at an international level.
