ESEA Propulsion and Floatech win the MUBIL Mobility Awards 2025 for their breakthroughs in electric propulsion and sustainable transport
The two startups triumph at the fifth edition of the MUBIL Awards, celebrating the most innovative technological solutions in intelligent and sustainable mobility.
- The MUBIL Mobility Awards strengthen their international profile, with 61 projects submitted from 27 countries, while consolidating the Basque ecosystem as a European benchmark in smart and sustainable mobility.
Donostia–San Sebastian, 24th of October 2025 — Spanish startups ESEA Propulsion, specialising in cutting-edge electric propulsion systems for the maritime sector, and Floatech, developer of ultra-fast batteries with silicon anodes, have won the MUBIL Mobility Awards 2025. The final ceremony took place yesterday at Tabakalera (Donostia–San Sebastian).
Both projects emerged victorious among the five finalists chosen by the awards’ technical committee, which in its fifth edition assessed a total of 61 entries from 27 countries, confirming the international reach of these leading awards in smart and sustainable mobility.
Technology and impact for the mobility of the future
The first prize, carrying a €12,500 award, went to ESEA Propulsion, based in Mahón (Menorca). The company is developing electric propulsion systems for boats, designed to enhance energy efficiency and minimise the environmental footprint of maritime transport. The startup offers a viable path towards decarbonising a sector long dependent on fossil fuels.
Meanwhile, the Madrid-based startup Floatech received the second prize, valued at €4,000. Their project focuses on the design and production of silicon anodes capable of storing up to ten times more charge than conventional materials, thereby increasing the range of electric vehicles. In addition, these anodes enable the manufacture of batteries that charge much faster and are more durable, lightweight, and safe.
In addition to the cash prizes, both projects will receive a further €18,500 in funding to continue developing their solutions in collaboration with stakeholders from the Basque smart and sustainable mobility ecosystem. They will also join the MUBIL Hub, have a dedicated workspace for 12 months at the MUBIL Center, and gain prominent exposure at the upcoming MUBIL Mobility Expo, taking place on the 25th and 26th of March 2026 at Ficoba (Irun).
An edition defined by internationalisation and applied innovation
The MUBIL Mobility Awards 2025 have strengthened their international profile, setting a record in participation and demonstrating remarkable geographical diversity. Of the 61 projects submitted, 27 were international, mainly from France, Germany, and Italy, as well as other regions in Africa and Asia.
The jury placed special emphasis on the transformative impact and technological viability of the proposals. Alongside the two winners, the finalists included Battery Watchdog – Weavair (Poland), which specialises in predictive battery monitoring using artificial intelligence; the German company ELU Mobility, dedicated to making electric freight transport profitable; and Alicante-based Hydros POWER, focused on green hydrogen solutions for sectors that are difficult to electrify.
During the event, hosted by Antonella Broglia, an international expert in social innovation, the five finalists presented their projects to a jury composed of representatives from companies, technology centres, and mobility ecosystem organisations, who highlighted the technical excellence and collaborative potential of all the submissions.
Institutional presence and leading ecosystem
The awards ceremony was attended by Eider Mendoza, General Deputy of Gipuzkoa; Unai Andueza, Deputy for Economic Promotion and Strategic Projects of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and President of MUBIL; and Jaione Ganzarain, Deputy Minister for Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation of the Basque Government.
Opened in May, the MUBIL Center features 9,700 m² of advanced facilities and laboratories for testing energy storage, electric propulsion, and hydrogen fuel cells, making it a European hub for the validation of next-generation technologies.
Five years driving the mobility of the future
With this edition, the MUBIL Mobility Awards celebrate five years as a leading platform for technology startups in the mobility sector. Since their inception, they have received over 200 tech-based projects, a third of which come from abroad, highlighting their global impact and role in promoting cleaner, more connected, and efficient mobility.
