MUBIL joins ELEK BIDEA Technical Committee to accelerate heavy-duty transport decarbonisation

MUBIL's General Manager, César Gutiérrez, has joined the Technical Committee of ELEK BIDEA, a cross-border French-Spanish initiative aimed at accelerating the decarbonisation of heavy-duty road transport. The project seeks to establish a cross-border living lab connecting Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the Basque Country and Navarre.

With this appointment, MUBIL further strengthens its commitment to international sustainable mobility initiatives, bringing its expertise to a collaborative effort that unites companies, technology centres, public authorities and key stakeholders from the energy and mobility sectors. As a member of the Technical Committee, MUBIL will take part in the committee's coordination meetings, supporting knowledge exchange and the development of collaborative initiatives focused on the electrification of freight transport along one of Southern Europe's most important logistics corridors. ELEK BIDEA aims to transform the Nouvelle-Aquitaine–Basque Country–Navarre corridor into a large-scale demonstration area for the deployment of zero-emission freight corridors, paving the way for electric heavy goods vehicles to operate seamlessly between France and Spain. To achieve this, the initiative promotes collaboration across the entire value chain, bringing together logistics operators, energy providers, industry, public administrations and research organisations. At the heart of the initiative is a cross-border living lab where innovative solutions will be tested under real operating conditions along a corridor currently used by around 10,000 heavy vehicles every day. The living lab will focus on several priority areas, including the deployment of high-power charging infrastructure, cross-border interoperability, optimisation of logistics flows through data and artificial intelligence, and the assessment of the economic, regulatory and social challenges associated with the electrification of heavy-duty transport. In addition to the living lab, ELEK BIDEA will establish an Industry Chair to foster specialised knowledge and skills, organise a European forum bringing together leading stakeholders from across the sector, and operate a Technical Committee responsible for identifying, prioritising and coordinating the initiative's different activities. MUBIL's participation in the Technical Committee further strengthens its international innovation network while reinforcing the Basque sustainable mobility ecosystem's connection to strategic European initiatives that will shape the future of freight transport across Europe.
